Rajasthan Rain Deficit Deepens as Only Seven Places Receive Rainfall
Rajasthan remains largely dry as only seven places record rain in 24 hours, with Tijara receiving 8 mm and Dholpur 6 mm. Kharif sowing has reached 93% of the target amid growing concerns over water availability.
Tijara recorded the highest rainfall at 8 mm, followed by Dholpur with 6 mm. Rainfall was also recorded in Rajakheda. Deeg, Khairthal and Mandawar received 2 mm each. No location recorded even 10 mm of rainfall during the period.
The rainfall figures come as the second half of August continues to remain deprived of the monsoon's favour. The prolonged wait for rain has also begun affecting Kharif sowing across Rajasthan.
The state may now have to work towards achieving 100 per cent of the Kharif sowing target. So far, only 93 per cent of the targeted Kharif sowing has been completed across the state.
A widespread spell of heavy rainfall could provide much-needed relief to Kharif crops across Rajasthan. If the remaining fortnight also passes without adequate rainfall, arrangements for drinking water and irrigation water will have to be made across the state.
The government, meanwhile, continues to issue directions to conserve water drop by drop as Rajasthan faces the growing pressure of inadequate rainfall and its impact on Kharif cultivation.
